WHO WE ARE

Caritas Hungary is the official Aid Organisation of the Hungarian Catholic Church. It helps people in need by maintaining social and health care facilities, providing various help programs and actions regardless of age, gender or denomination. 

Our work is governed by the principles and standards developed and adopted by the major international aid organisations. The most important thing is that the personal love of the volunteer and professional staff working in the charity network reach the people we support. We practise charity in the community and we welcome all those interested in these communities.

Love of neighbour, rooted in the love of God, is first and foremost responsibility for each individual believer, but it is also a responsibility for the entire ecclesial community at every level. As a community, the Church must practise love. Love thus needs to be organized if it is to be an ordered service to the community. (Deus Caritas Est: Encyclical Letter of the Supreme Pontiff Benedict). So Caritas Hungary is a movement and institution at the same time. A movement in which volunteers work and an institution that provides the necessary framework for work as an official aid organization for the Catholic Church.
